Is a team of friends from Medellin (Colombia) that promotes research, teaching and encoding of Bayesian Econometrics with social responsibility.
Bayesian Econometrics allows establishing a framework that simultaneously unifies decision theory, statistical inference, and probability theory under a single philosophically and mathematically consistent structure.

Vision

BEsmarter envisions worldwide econometric research, teaching and applications based on a Bayesian framework that:

  • Devises new econometric ideas
  • Develops a user friendly environment for applications of Bayesian econometrics
  • Transforms classic econometric research, teaching and applications
  • And where one of the main concerns of science is to solve social problems.

Founder

Andrés Ramírez Hassan

I am a theory and applied econometrician working as a Professor in the Department of Economics at Universidad EAFIT. I got a PhD in statistical science, then I was a research fellow at the Department of Econometrics at Monash University, and a visiting professor in the Department of Economics at Melbourne University. My research has been in the area of Bayesian Econometrics with applications in finance, utilities, health, crime and sports.

Santiago Montoya

I am currently a PhD Candidate in Economics at Emory University. After obtaining my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Economics at Universidad EAFIT in Colombia, I came to Atlanta to continue my studies. My research work covers theoretical and applied econometrics, with a focus on Bayesian analysis. I have also been fortunate enough to have taught my own courses in economic principles and econometrics, furthering my passion for teaching. I will be joining the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow as Lecturer in Econometrics starting September 2021. In my spare time, I play the drums in an Indie Rock band, read fantasy books, listen to a lot of music and play tennis.

Mateo Graciano

I am a mathematical engineer with an MSc in Data Science and Analytics from Universidad EAFIT. I have very good experience developing apps and GUIs in Shiny. My research area is econometric modeling in sports, asset allocation, risk management, time series modeling and people analytics. My professional development has been in the financial sector industry. In my free time I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and also PS4 (mostly FIFA) with friends.

Rosember Guerra

I got a Maths degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a Msc in Finance from Universidad EAFIT. Nowadays, I am a PhD student at the Department of Methodology and Statistics at Tilburg University. My research area is portfolio selection and optimization. I usually spend my free time playing soccer, cycling and hanging out drinking beer with my friends.

Jim Sanchez

I am an economist from Universidad de Antioquia, and I got a MSc in Finance from Universidad EAFIT, where I am a PhD Candidate in Economics doing a research felowship at Tilburg University. My research interest are Bayesian Econometrics and Efficiency (in banking industry mainly). Away from the academy, I love driving, traveling, and listening to electronic music.

Manuel Correa

I am a Mathematician from Universidad de Antioquia, and I got MSc in Economics at Universidad EAFIT where I am a PhD Candidate in Economics doing a Research Fellowship in Duke University. My research interests are Bayesian Econometrics, Macroeconomics and Energy sector. I love traveling, riding bike and watching good football matches with my friends drinking good beers.

Alejandro Puerta

I am an Economist from Universidad EAFIT where I got a MSc in Economics. I am a first year PhD student at Universidad Carlos III. My research interests include Bayesian Econometrics and in general, ontology. I enjoy doing math a lot, and of course economics. I also like reading, watching sports (especially soccer) and drinking beer with my friends.
